School Board Announces Five New Principals at Monday’s Meeting

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Jack Smith recommended the appointment of five new principals for the Board of Education’s approval at Monday’s meeting. The board approved all five appointments which take affect July 1.

Dr. Robert Dodd was appointed principal at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda. Dodd, a 25-year employee with the school system is currently a lead consulting principal.

Brandice Heckert was named principal at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac. Heckert is currently serving as an assistant principal at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. She has 18 years with the school system and started her career in education as a math teacher.

Dr. Eric Minus was appointed principal of Sherwood High School. Minus began his 19-year career with MCPS as a biology and physics teacher, he currently serves as a director of school support and improvement for middle schools.

Megan Murphy was appointed principal at Seven Locks Elementary School in Potomac. Murphy currently serves as an assistant principal at William B. Gibbs Elementary School in Germantown. Murphy began her ten year career with MCPS teaching grade 5 at Capt. James E. Daly Elementary School in Germantown.

Loretta Woods was named principal at Whetstone Elementary School in Montgomery Village. Woods currently serves as a principal intern at Wayside Elementary School in Potomac and began her 13-year career with MCPS teaching grade 4 at Fields Road Elementary School in Gaithersburg.

Previously the school board approved the appointment of two principals at its May 8 meeting.

Cary Dimmick, currently serving as principal of Sligo Middle School in Silver Spring was appointed principal of Gaithersburg High School.

Elizabeth Thomas, currently serving as a director of school support for middle schools, was appointed principal of Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg.
