Sandy Spring to Host Historical 9K Race on May 7
The Sandy Spring Museum is partnering with the DC Road Runners on the Sandy Spring Nanty Narking Nearly 9K Run on May 7. This trail run will take participants past seven historic sites in the Sandy Spring community.
Other partners include: Sandy Spring Friends School, The Journey School, Underground Railroad Experience Trail, and the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission.
The race begins a the Sandy Springs Friends School on Norwood Road and will pass the 19th century Ashton Meeting House, Underground Railroad Experience Trail, historic Harewood, the Sandy Spring Meethouse and then back.
“We think this is the only run of its kind,” said Allison Weiss, executive director of Sandy Spring Museum, who created the event to call attention to the historic sites. “Nanty Narking is a Victoria expression for having a good time.”
Weiss said the 9K is about 5.5 miles, so she encourages walkers to participate as well.
Registration is $35 for adults, and $25 for runners under age 12. For more info, and a detailed course map, visit the event’s website.
