Safe Silver Spring Meeting To Focus on Teen Jobs
Safe Silver Spring, a community civic group, is scheduled to host a meeting on April. 20, 7 p.m. at the Long Branch Community Center at 8700 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring.
According to the organization’s newsletter, the purpose of this meeting is to discuss current job opportunities and training programs for teens, especially minority and low-income teens. Attendees will also have a chance to talk about ideas that could lead to future job opportunities. Advocates also want to discuss ways Montgomery County officials can assist in developing and facilitating such programs.
Speakers at the meeting are Gabriel Albornoz, director of Montgomery County Recreation Department, MMYC staff, and Arts On the Block staff.
According to the civic group website, the mission of the nonprofit is to develop strategies, partnerships and goals to “keep Silver Spring a community where people can live, work, travel, shop and play safely.” Safe Silver Spring encourages citizens, community and business leaders, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and public officials to take steps to reduce crime and keep neighborhoods safe.
