Rockville’s Barnes & Noble Moving Up the Pike this Summer

The bad news for book readers: Barnes & Noble at Montrose Crossing in Rockville will be closing this summer. The good news: a new Barnes & Noble will open a mile up the street on Rockville Pike at Congressional Plaza the day after the other one closes. So there will be no interruption. Just a new address.

The move is scheduled to happen this summer.

The new store will be located between Noodles & Company and Niemann Marcus Last Call and will occupy the space in Congressional Plaza where White House Black Market, Chico’s and Baja Fresh were.

Asked why they are moving, a spokesperson for Barnes & Noble told MyMCMedia, “landlord’s request.” There was no elaboration. The landlord is Federal Realty Investment Trust which owns Congressional Plaza.

Montgomery County currently has one other Barnes & Noble: at Rio in Gaithersburg.

The Barnes & Noble in Bethesda closed in January of 2018 after two decades at Bethesda Row.
