Rockville Winter Break Activities for Youth

Rockville’s Recreation and Parks Department has many fun and safe programs during winter break for your school-aged kids. Now is the time to register your children.

Does your youngster like cooking? Try Thomas Farm Community Center’s Young Chefs Cooking Series for kids in grades 1-5 on Friday, Dec. 27 and Monday, Dec. 30. The program runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and is $40 for residents / $45 for non-residents (fee includes an apron).

Would your child rather run up and down the court? Lincoln Park Community Center’s Make It Happen Basketball on Thursday, Dec. 26 and Friday Dec. 27 is a great place to get some energy out and perfect their shots. This program is open for kids in grades 4-9 and runs from 9 a.m. to noon; cost is $30 for residents / $40 for non-residents. Register for both days and save $10 (two-day fee: $50 / $70).

If your child is looking for a place to hang out with friends for the day, try Twinbrook Community and Recreation Center’s Winter Wonderland Fun Days on Mondays, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. The day’s activities will include crafts, organized games and more. This program is open to kids from age 5-11; cost is $25 for residents / $29 for non-residents each day.

Your teen (grade 6-10) can join “No School Day” trips during winter break. On Monday, Dec. 23 from 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. teens are invited to paint pottery, eat pizza and hit the movie theater. On Monday, Dec. 30 from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. they can grab a friend or meet new ones for ice skating and lunch. Both programs include transportation and supervision.
