Rockville United Church to Host ‘Furlough Feast’

Rockville United Church is hosting a “Furlough Feast” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The Facebook event description says that the feast is open to all furloughed federal employees.

“While we host the meal, an opportunity will be had for those on furlough to share their stories and to discuss the support they may need if the furlough continues many more weeks,” the description says.

According to Dalia Austin, a church administrator for Rockville United Church, many members of the church are furloughed workers who’ve been hurting because of the government shutdown.

Austin said the church will serve soups, bread, cookies, and more. Much of the food will be donated by church members and by the church’s pastor, Rev. Dr. E. Scott Winnette.

People interested in attending the feast should RSVP ahead of time by emailing esw@rockvilleunitedchurch.org. Rockville United Church is located at 355 Linthicum Street.
