Rockville to Discuss Rockville Pike, Adequate Facilities Standards and Budget at Upcoming Meetings

Discussions of the City’s Adequate Public Facilities Standards and the draft Rockville Pike plan, and previews of the Fiscal Year 2016 budget are on upcoming agendas for Rockville’s Mayor and Council.

The Mayor and Council are scheduled to review the City’s APFS as they relate to school facilities, beginning with a preliminary discussion on Nov. 17. The APFS are designed to ensure adequate public facilities are in place in time to keep up with the demands of new development.

A public hearing on the topic is scheduled for Jan. 5, with discussion continuing throughout January. A vote on whether to adopt any proposed changes to the standards is scheduled for Jan 26.

Other important Mayor and Council agenda items scheduled in the coming months include:
• Continued discussion of the City’s utility rates. A public hearing on water and sewer rates is scheduled for Nov. 10, with a discussion of the rates and rate structure on Nov. 24.
• Previews of the FY16 budget on Nov. 17, Jan. 5 and Feb. 9.
• Presentations on Dec. 8 of the Popular Annual Financial Report and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2014.
• The Planning Commission’s annual presentation on Dec. 8.
• A discussion on Nov. 17 of Duball Rockville LLC’s proposal to add 178 apartments and reduce required parking by 25 percent at its planned mixed-use building at 198 East Montgomery Ave.
• Public hearings and work sessions on the draft “Rockville’s Pike Plan” on Nov. 17 and Dec. 8. For more information, visit www.rockvillemd.gov/rockvillespike.
• An update on the King Farm Farmstead project on Nov. 24.
• A discussion on Dec. 8 of the compensation and classification study of City positions.
• A presentation on Nov. 24 of a Rockville Swim and Fitness Center facility conditions assessment and recommendations for enhancements.
• A discussion on Jan. 5 of “mansionization”–the impact of building or remodeling houses that are much larger than homes in the surrounding neighborhood.
