Rockville, Takoma Park, and Gaithersburg Ranked in Top Five Smartest Cities in Maryland
Three of the top five smartest cities to live in Maryland are in Montgomery County, according to a new report.
The career research website, Zippia.com, ranks Rockville (#3), Takoma Park (#4), and Gaithersburg (#5) in the top 10 Smartest Cities in Maryland list. The number one city on the list is Annapolis.
Zippia’s analysts utilized data from the census to determine the relative intelligence of a city’s residents. They compared the 22 largest cities in Maryland for two key indicators:
- Percentage of adults with at least a college education (Higher is smarter)
- Percentage of teenagers that are high school dropouts (Lower is smarter)
The cities of Rockville, Takoma Park and Gaithersburg all have a small high school dropout rate at two percent.
Nearly two thirds of adults in Rockville have a college degree (63.98%). More than half of the adults in both Takoma Park (56.73%) and Gaithersburg (52.73%) have a college degree. According to Zippia, only about 30% of Americans over 25 have graduated from college.
