Rockville Senior Center Open House

Rockville is hosting an open house on September 4 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive.

Seniors aged 60 and older are invited to this free event intended to give seniors in Rockville the chance to experience new areas of fitness and preview the many classes that will be offered in the fall. There will be several free, 25-minute programs offered throughout the day and light snacks will be provided.

The event aims to inform the Rockville senior community about the many opportunities the center offers for seniors to enjoy an active lifestyle. In 2012, over 200 different programs were offered through the sports and fitness department and over 3,000 seniors registered for programs and memberships.

The center’s programs and services help seniors continue to live independently in the home and in the community and to spend time with friends or make new ones.

The recent expansion of the Rockville Senior Center also allows seniors to make use of state-of-the-art fitness equipment in the new fitness room. Currently, there are 18 pieces of cardio equipment and 11 strength pieces, with three used for post-rehabilitation.

The new fitness room is also designed to accommodate most fitness levels in the senior population, with equipment that is wheelchair accessible and personal trainers and post-rehab specialists available for those seniors coming out of physical therapy or surgery.
