Rockville Nonprofit to Host “Rethinking Responses to Poverty” Conference
Annual Caregivers Conference
Interfaith Works, a nonprofit that helps low-income families, is scheduled to host the 19th Annual Caregivers Conference on May 6. This year’s theme: Rethinking Responses to Poverty — From Symptoms to Solutions.
The conversation will take place at B’nai Israel Congregation in Rockville from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“It takes an honest look to respond to poverty in our county that sometimes seems hidden,” said Charlotte Garvey, communication’s manager for Interfaith Works.
According to Garvey, the conference is to give caregivers- among them social workers, school counselors, congregation officials- the chance to network with each other and share information about tools they can use to help families in need.
Garvey said they expect 150 people to attend the conference and although online registration is closed; people can still register on-site the day of the event. On-site registration is $35.
There will be panels throughout the event. Topics range from the state of poverty in Montgomery county, the role of fathers in low-income families, early intervention with the children in low-income families to solutions promising possibilities.
Garvey added that national and county officials will be in attendance, and said “they need to be part of the conversation.”
