Rockville Mayor Elected to Maryland Municipal League Board
Rockville Mayor Bridget Newton has been elected to the board of directors of the Maryland Municipal League (MML). Newtown was also named chair of the organization’s legislative committee.
Newton will serve as a member-at-large on the MML board of directors after having previously served as a district vice president on the board. For the past year she served as vice chair of the MML Legislative Committee, which was her fourth term on the committee.
Newton, who was elected as a Rockville councilmember in 2009 and as mayor in 2013, served as president of the Montgomery Chapter of MML from November 2012 through June 2015.
A voluntary, nonprofit, nonpartisan association controlled and maintained by city and town governments, MML works to strengthen and support municipal government through advocacy and the development of effective leadership. Through its membership in the National League of Cities, MML offers legislative representation in Washington, urban research programs, and a national municipal government information exchange.
