A house fire at 1001 Paul Drive in Rockville displaced eight people, four adults and four children, and caused $125,000 in damage on Friday night.

It happened around 6 p.m. on Dec. 19.

Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer said a working smoke alarm alerted three occupants to the fire and they escaped safely. According to Piringer, firefighters rescued the family dog.

A curling iron left on a bed caused the fire, Piringer said.

On his Twitter account, Piringer described damage from the fire as significant and said the Red Cross was assisting the displaced residents.
