Rockville Holiday Drive (Video)

The Rockville Mayor and Council will kick off the City’s annual Holiday Drive during their Oct. 22 meeting, with an invitation to the community to pull together to support neighbors who may need assistance.

Rockville 11 prepared this video to preview last years drive:

Food donations of items such as canned fruit and vegetables (corn and green beans), canned chicken soup, canned cranberry sauce, jars of turkey gravy, boxed stuffing, and macaroni and cheese, will be accepted until Wednesday, Nov. 14, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Volunteers are needed to pack and/or deliver Thanksgiving boxes. Volunteers are also needed to sponsor a family in December. In 2011, 215 residents volunteered their time to participate in the Holiday Drive. If interested, call Cynthia Bangali at 240-314-8317.

Gift certificates and food donations can be dropped off at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.; Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, 12920 Twinbrook Parkway; Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Drive; Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, 355 Martins Lane; and Rockville Senior Center, 1150 Carnation Drive.

Monetary donations and $15 gift certificates to stores such as Giant, Safeway, Target, Best Buy and Old Navy are also needed by Thursday, Dec. 13. They should be sent to City of Rockville Community Services, 30 Courthouse Square, Suite 100, Rockville, 20850.

For more than 40 years, Rockville has operated the drive to distribute food and toys to families. Last year, the Rockville Holiday Drive distributed 565 Thanksgiving food boxes, as well as new toys and gift cards in December to 1,310 Rockville residents.

This year, Rockville anticipates helping more than 1,300 children in 530 homes with food and toy donations.
