Rockville City Closings

The City of Rockville will “slide” its regularly scheduled recycling and refuse collection by two days this week. The new schedule will allow crews to respond to the effects of Hurricane Sandy and give residents the opportunity to dispose of any spoiled food along with regular trash.

* Residents whose collection typically occurs on Monday should put their collection out on Wednesday.
* Residents whose collection typically occurs on Tuesday should put their collection out on Thursday.
* Residents whose collection typically occurs on Wednesday should put their collection out on Friday.
* Residents whose collection typically occurs on Thursday should put their collection out on Saturday.
* Residents whose collection typically occurs on Friday should put their collection out on Sunday.

The normal recycling and refuse collection will resume Monday, Nov. 5.

Residents should place storm debris at the curb for crews to collect. Branches should be no more than eight feet long and should easily clear overhead power lines and trees so they can be accessed by Rockville’s heavy equipment vehicles. It is expected that there will be a heavy volume of yard waste throughout the community. Residents are asked to be patient; crews will pick up debris as soon as possible.

Due to the impacts of Hurricane Sandy, City of Rockville recreation classes, programs and facilities will be canceled and closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Closed facilities include the Senior Center, Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, Thomas Farm Community Center, Croydon Creek Nature Center, Lincoln Park Community Center, Rockville Civic Center Park, Glenview Mansion, Climbing Gym, Montrose Community Center, Twinbrook Community Recreation Center

The Charter Review Commission’s Town Hall meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, has been canceled.

Due to the expected impacts of Hurricane Sandy, the City of Rockville offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, Oct. 29.

Essential personnel must report to work as directed.

All classes, facilities and programs are canceled on October 29. The regularly scheduled Mayor and Council meeting has been canceled as well. A decision about potential cancellations and closings on Tuesday, Oct. 30, will be made on Monday.
