Road Closure Unauthorized

An early morning road closure on Winter Walk Drive in the community of Quince Orchard Park (QOP) was not authorized, according to a city of Gaithersburg official.

Residents woke up early on Sept. 17 to find the neighborhood road had been blocked off before 7:30 a.m., near the developing Vistas community.

“Staff has advised the contractor to remove the road closure signs and utilize appropriate traffic control measures to flag traffic around the equipment as they replace a portion of the water line,” said Wes Burnette, Gaithersburg’s permits and inspections director.

According to Burnette, construction on the line is expected to take two or three days to complete.

“The trench will be steel plated overnight and the road will remain open,” Burnette said. “Additionally they indicated there would be a several hour interruption of water service while the new connection is made. This will most likely occur tomorrow; however the time is dependent on the progression of work.”

QOP Community Manager Ruchita Patel forwarded an email from the developer of the Vistas that indicated that WSSC will advise residents 48 hours before the water is turned off. The developer indicated the shutoff will probably occur at the end of the week.
