Riemer to Announce Initiative to Plant 100,000 Trees in MoCo

Montgomery County Councilmember Hans Riemer is scheduled to announce his initiative to plant 100,000 new trees in Montgomery County at a news conference on June 2 at James Monroe Park in downtown Rockville.

County officials said funding for the program will come from the $138,210 recently approved by the Council for the fiscal year 2015 budget as well as funds from the County’s tree canopy bills, approved last year.

Also expected to attend the announcement is Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett who supports the initiative and who will work with the Department of Environmental Protection to further develop how the strategy will be implemented.
