Riderwood Recognized in Top 20 of Healthiest Employers in Greater Washington
Riderwood was named as one of the Healthiest Employers in Greater Washington for 2015 in an annual competition sponsored by the Washington Business Journal.
The awards reception was held on August 13 in Crystal City, Virginia. Sarah Jenkins, MSN, MPH, CRNP, the Nurse Practitioner for the Employee Health & Wellness Center, represented the Erickson Living retirement community at the ceremony.
“This recognition affirms the continuous efforts being made to create a culture of wellness that is valued by employees of Riderwood,” stated Ms. Jenkins. “It’s also a celebration of life-changing stories that we hope to build upon for years to come. We thank the Washington Business Journal for highlighting this important issue.”
During the summer, nominees completed an extensive application reviewed by Indiana-based Healthiest Employers LLC. Companies were evaluated in six categories: leadership commitment, communication & markets, foundational components, programming & interventions, strategic planning and reporting & analysis.
A focal point to Riderwood’s program is the Employee Health & Wellness Center, used by staff for urgent care and wellness visits.
“We are one of the busiest centers in the Erickson enterprise,” noted Ms. Jenkins. “It offers a convenient, comfortable setting where our employees know we have the resources to meet many of their health care needs.”
Employees enjoy a myriad of programming such as Weight Watchers®, weekly classes like Yoga and free access to the fitness centers located on campus.
Staff members of Riderwood have extra inspiration—the 2,500 residents who live at the community.
“Many of our residents regularly utilize our fitness centers or participate in other activities such as walking,” noted Ms. Jenkins. “It’s tremendous motivation for our employees to see how residents who engage in a wellness regimen can lead a vibrant, healthy life.”
Greenspring, a sister community of Riderwood located in northern Virginia, also received a Top 20 ranking as one of the Healthiest Employers in Greater Washington.
