Riderwood Honors Its 2014 Scholarship Fund Recipients

They are future pharmacists, environmental engineers, art therapists and teachers.  They balance school and work with impressive results.

Seventy-six employees of Riderwood were honored for their academic excellence and workplace achievement at the Erickson Living retirement community’s 2014 Scholarship Awards Program on April 9th.

Ten high school seniors received four-year collegiate scholarships, and sixty-six adult learners received one-year awards based on contributions by residents to the Riderwood Scholarship Fund.

During the ceremony, Fiona Divecha, Philanthropy Manager at Riderwood, announced that over $195,000 was raised for the program during a one-month campaign.

Judy Kneen is a resident of Riderwood who serves on the 8-member Scholarship Committee.  In her congratulatory remarks, Ms. Kneen stated that “we are so proud of how these award recipients manage their studies, extracurricular activities and family responsibilities.  The scholarships will aid these students in finding successful paths in their careers and communities.  We are grateful to all those who contributed to the Riderwood Scholarship Fund.”

“Tonight is a celebration of the special relationship between our residents and these scholarship recipients,” noted Chip Warner, Executive Director of Riderwood.  “The investment being made in these high school students and adult learners is a profound example of how Riderwood fulfills its mission to share our gifts to create a community that celebrates life.”

Travone Sukie, an employee of the Overlook Restaurant at Riderwood, provided the Student Appreciation Remarks during the ceremony.

Special guests included Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Prince George’s County Board of Education Member Zabrina Epps, M.P.M., and representatives from Blake High School and High Point High School.
