Ride Allegheny Pedals Again
On October 4, a group of 55 cyclists and 8 Support Group members will depart Homestead, PA for Darnestown, MD in support of wounded, injured and ill combat veterans for the 12th Annual Ride Allegheny – a four-day, 300 mile ride. On Saturday, October 6, 19 additional cyclists join the Ride Allegheny group in Cumberland MD to complete the last 180 miles to Darnestown. This ride transits both the Great Allegheny Passage and the Chesapeake & Ohio National Canal trails.
Ride Allegheny teamed together with partner Operation Second Chance in 2005 and together have raised over $500,000 to support Veterans and their families. This year’s goal is $175,000.
American Legion Posts and local volunteers along the trail in Pennsylvania and Maryland will be at specific rest stops to provide comfort and trail provisions to our cyclists.
About Ride Allegheny
Ride Allegheny was founded in 2001 by Clark Wagner, who was joined by five neighborhood friends completing a chilly mid-October bicycling adventure from Pittsburgh to Gaithersburg following a delayed launch due to 9/11. We knew at that point in time we started something special from both a challenge and camaraderie perspective. In March 2005 we had the good fortune to meet Cindy McGrew, Founder of Operation Second Chance and hear about the important work she was doing for injured Soldiers and Marines recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC. What started as an adventure became a cause, the challenge of just finishing the ride took on a far more important meaning.

We support Veterans and their families while they recover in military hospitals, by building relationships and identifying and supporting immediate needs and interests. We are dedicated to promoting public awareness of the many sacrifices made by our Armed Forces.
