ORIGINAL POST
Montgomery County Council President Craig Rice is scheduled to hold his weekly briefing on Nov. 17 and one of the topics he is expected to address is a Nov. 14 memo from Council Vice President George Leventhal’s office about tentative committee assignments for the new Montgomery County Council.
The inauguration for the new Council is set for Dec. 1 at Richard Montgomery High School.
According to the Nov 14 memo, the structure of the new Council’s committee assignments are as follows:
Education Committee (ED)
Craig Rice, Chair
Marc Elrich
Nancy Navarro
Government Operations and Fiscal Policy (GO)
Nancy Navarro, Chair
Sidney Katz
Hans Riemer
Health and Human Services (HHS)
George Leventhal, Chair
Roger Berliner
Craig Rice
Planning, Housing and Economic Development (PHED)
Nancy Floreen, Chair
George Leventhal
Hans Riemer
Public Safety (PS)
Marc Elrich, Chair
Tom Hucker
Sidney Katz
Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment (T&E)
Roger Berliner, Chair
Nancy Floreen
Tom Hucker
Before the Nov. 4 election, Councilmember Marc Elrich told MyMCMedia that he hoped to stay on the PHED Committee.
“I’d at least like to retain my seat on there because I think I bring an element of independence that’s important,” said Elrich in that MyMCMedia interview.
According to this memo, Elrich will no longer serve on the PHED committee but will chair the Public Safety Committee and sit on the Education Committee. Councilmember Hans Riemer is now assigned to the PHED committee as well as the GO committee.
Councilmember-elect Sidney Katz is headed to the GO and Public Safety committees, two committees he was hoping to land. Councilmember-elect Tom Hucker is designated to the Public Safety and T&E committees.
Other topics Rice may talk about on Monday are Governor-elect Larry Hogan, the county’s efforts to raise fines for school bus cameras and minimum wage.
What a predictable petty vengeful move by Leventhal. Haven’t we been embarrassed enough lately?
