Resurfacing of MD 410 Begins July 28

Beginning on July 28, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin final resurfacing on MD 410 (East West Highway) from Park Avenue to MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue) in Takoma Park  as part of the ongoing $550,000 safety and resurfacing project. Weather permitting, the work should be complete by late August.

To complete the work, SHA’s contractor may temporarily close one lane within the project limits weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and overnight, Sunday through Thursday, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. All work is weather permitting.  The work involves pavement grinding, utility adjustments, applying asphalt on the roadway and driveway tie-ins and applying pavement markings.

The resurfacing work will improve the road quality on MD 410 where more than 35,000 vehicles travel daily. SHA will use electronic message boards, construction cones, barrels, arrow boards and flaggers to direct motorists through the work zone. To date, curb and gutter, sidewalk, sidewalk ramp and driveway work has been completed within the one-mile project limits. SHA’s contractor for the project is C.J. Miller, LLC of Hampstead.

This project was made possible with funding from the Transportation Infrastructure Investment Act of 2013, which maintains crucial system preservation investments and allows Maryland to activate long-term strategies to invest in Maryland’s transportation systems. By putting people back to work in the transportation industry with $4.4 billion in new investments in the next six years, Maryland is creating hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity and providing Marylanders with the transportation infrastructure necessary to grow and prosper for decades to come.

As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
