Results of Nightime Seat Belt Enforcement
Montgomery County Police joined Gaithersburg and Rockville City Police departments in a campaign to enforce the nighttime use of seatbelts on May 10. From approximately 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., officers were stationed at entrance and exit ramps of I-270 and I-495. The officers were observing vehicles for seatbelt non-compliance and other safety violations. The operation was ended early due to heavy rain.
According to the police, the results included:
- Total Number of Traffic Citations Issued : 139
- Seat Belt Citations Issued : 44
- Equipment Repair Orders Issued : 25
- Warnings Issued: 59
- Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Arrests : 4
- Criminal Arrests: 2
- Criminal Citations Issued: 1
- Warrants Served : 1
- Driving While Suspended Traffic Citations : 8
