Gun Turn-In Event Results

The organizers of the Montgomery County Regional Gun Turn-In event, held in cooperation with the Maryland Attorney General’s First Annual Statewide Gun Turn-In Day, have released the results of the May 11th effort.

Organizers held the successful event between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at three locations in the county: the Public Safety Headquarters located at 100 Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg, the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg and at the East County Regional Services Center/ MCPD Satellite Facility at 3300 Briggs Chaney Road in Silver Spring.

The preliminary numbers for the event are:

Total: 111 guns

69 handguns
27 rifles
15 shotguns

In addition, one grenade, eleven BB guns, one sword, and approximately 10,000 rounds of ammunition were turned in on May 11.

Organizers of the event will be making a donation for each gun turned in to the University of Maryland Medical Center’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

The Gun Turn-In event was co-sponsored by the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Montgomery County Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Gaithersburg Police Department, the Rockville City Police Department, the University of Maryland Shock Trauma, the Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission and the Victim’s Rights Foundation.
