Residents Moving Back Into Promenade

Residents are moving back into the Promenade Towers as electricity was restored over the weekend, said Carl Hyde on Monday. Hyde is the property’s community manager.

A fire knocked out electrical equipment Saturday, Oct. 21.

In its north and south towers, the 18-story Promenade has more than 1,000 units, Hyde said. About 500 units were affected by the fire.

The Red Cross had been finding places for the displaced residents to stay. After working out of the Gwendolyn Coffield Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring, the Red Cross has moved into the Promenade’s tennis building.

Red Cross workers have said they will remain on site until they are no longer needed, he said.

The electrical equipment dated from 1972 and was scheduled to be replaced. New equipment was on site on Sunday, Oct. 22, Hyde said.

Fire and water damage was limited to the boiler room, he said. A contractor is determining the extent of smoke damage, Hyde said.
