Recreation Department Announces Wheaton Community Center to Close in March of 2016
The Montgomery County Department of Recreation is letting residents know that the Wheaton Community Center is scheduled to close permanently on March 28, 2016 in order to make way for a new community center and library.
The closing news was posted on both the department’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Preconstruction activities will include removing furniture, equipment and reallocating surplus at the current building and cutting off the utilities.
Demolition of the building and construction of the new facility is set to begin late summer 2016, according to information posted on the department’s Facebook page.
During this two-year period, Wheaton patrons will be directed to the Mid-County Community Center in Layhill, which is just 3.2 miles or 10 minutes from the current center.
The new library and community center are slated to open in 2018.
