Rabid Bat Found in Gaithersburg
Gaithersburg city officials are reminding residents to vaccinate their pets against the rabies virus after a rabid bat was found in an apartment on Dalamar Street on July 10th.
According to a city news release, the bat was captured, euthanized and tested for rabies. Test results confirmed that the bat was infected with the rabies virus, officials said.
City officials say rabies can be fatal to humans and animals if they are exposed and do not receive treatment.
If you were in direct contact with a bat in this area in the last several weeks, you are urged to contact the Montgomery County Health Department immediately at 240.777.1755.
If your pet had any contact with a bat in this area in the last several weeks, you should contact Gaithersburg Animal Control at 301.258.6343.
