Quince Orchard High Remembers Classmate
Quince Orchard High School, who lost a student to cancer over the weekend, has turned hallways at the school into chalk memorials to the boy.
Austin Cohen, who would have turned 17 Tuesday, died of bone cancer. He had wanted to play for the Quince Orchard football team. Instead, the team made him a part of the squad, where he often watched his school from the sidelines.
“He stayed involved the entire time. He was always part of what we were doing,” said George Awkard, Quince Orchard’s athletic director. “To continue to be as strong as possible for what he was going through, he showed a lot to a lot of us.”
For his birthday, the school put up poster paper to serve as a giant birthday card, Awkard said. Students and staff wrote their feelings, and the paper will be shared with his parents.
