Quince Orchard Football Alum Cooper Stars for Kent State

Former Montgomery County running backs Mohamed Ibrahim (Good Counsel) at Minnesota and Jake Funk (Damascus) at Maryland have been making noise in college football this season. Add Marquez Cooper to that list.

The 5’7″ Quince Orchard High School alum starred for Kent State (3-0) on Tuesday night, leading the Golden Flashes to a 69-35 win over Akron (0-3).

The freshman running back from Gaithersburg rushed for 107 yards on only 14 carries and scored three touchdowns against the Zips. Cooper’s second touchdown capped off a nine play, 79 yard drive for Kent State. So far in his first collegiate season, Cooper has rushed for 234 yards and five touchdowns.

Last year, Cooper led the Cougars to a 12-1 record and the No. 11 ranking in the state of Maryland. In just two years of high school football, he rushed for 2,897 yards and 51 touchdowns.

Cooper and the Golden Flashes next travel to the University of Buffalo (3-0) for a noon kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 28.
