Quince Orchard Cougars Going to States with Semifinal Win over North Point, 40-14 (PHOTOS)
Quince Orchard Cougars traveled to Waldorf, Maryland, Friday night to play the North Point Eagles in the 4A state semifinal match. With a 40-14 win, Quince Orchard Cougars return to the state championship Dec. 1 at the Navy Stadium in Annapolis.
North Point scored first with a five-yard touchdown and extra point in the first quarter. Quince Orchard answered with a Bonner pass to McGonagle after an interception for a touchdown and extra point, tying the score at 7-7.
Following a second Quince Orchard interception by Derwin, the team put another seven points on the board with eight minutes in the half. The score was 14-7, Quince Orchard, at halftime.
A 64-yard touchdown pass from Bonner to Tre Wade increased Quince Orchard’s lead. With less than eight minutes in the third quarter, the score is 21-7, Quince Orchard. Another touchdown in the third quarter, increased their lead to 27-7.
A third touchdown in the third quarter with a trick 18-yard pass from McGonagle to Bonner, earned senior ‘Doc’ Bonner his first scoring pass reception. With less than two minutes in the third quarter, the score was 33-7, Quince Orchard.
North Point scored with a 30-yard reception in the fourth quarter, making the score 33-14, Quince Orchard.
Bonner scored with a one-yard run into the end zone. With the extra point, the score was 40-14, Quince Orchard.
The Quince Orchard Cougars advance to the state championships with their win against North Point. The final score was 40-14, QO.
Quince Orchard Cougars play the Wise Pumas Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis for the 4A state championship.
