The Montgomery County Council on Dec. 8 joined the worldwide celebration of Human Rights Day.

The United Nations approved the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on Dec. 10, 1948.

At the ceremonies in Rockville were, left to right: James Stowe, director of the Office of Human Rights; Commissioner Alejandro Becerra; Okianer Christian Dark, the associate dean for academic affairs at the Howard University School of Law; Council President Nancy Floreen; and Commissioner Suresh Gupta, who is president of the National Association of Indian Asian Associations.
