Gas Leak in Germantown

According to Washington Gas, the gas leak was caused by a contractor, doing directional drilling, hitting an 8 inch gas line. The resulting gas outage affected approximately 70 homes. Washington Gas representatives were on location to contact homeowners and be sure service was restored. There were no injuries or property damage reported.

Washington Gas has stopped the gas leak. 70 homes affected by the gas outage. Washington Gas representatives will visit these homes when service is restored.

Washington Gas estimates it will take 1-2 hours to clamp off the leak. If gas is shut down it may only affect 70 homes, for undetermined amount of time.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, 241 homes have either been evacuated or are sheltering in place. Washington Gas is on the scene, gas pressure has been reduced and repairs are underway.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS), homes in the area of Brandermill Drive from Scenery Drive to Route 355 are being evacuated.

June 20 at 11 a.m. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue are at the intersection of Scenery Dr and Brandermill Drive in Germantown for a broken 12″ gas line. According to MCFRS, some homes are being evacuated. MCFRS is waiting for Washington Gas to arrive.
