Pooch Pool Party in Glenmont (PHOTOS)

dogswim1Montgomery County hosted it’s ninth annual Pooch Pool Party at the Glenmont Pool in Wheaton on Sept. 6 and 7.

This popular event is held on the weekend after the pool is closed for the summer swim season.

Recreation Spokesperson Judy Stiles said nearly 200 dogs got their paws wet at this year’s event.

dogswim2“The event is very popular with everyone including dogs and dog lovers,” said Stiles. “Many of the dogs are accompanied by the whole family. It is hard to know who loves the event more the dogs or the children. While the pool is closed to humans, the family members are allowed to be in the water up to their knees. Children love splashing and playing with their pets.”

According to Stiles, this is a special event and the dogs and their owners come from all over the county.

“The event is unique as it is the only special event offered for dogs,” she said. “Once the dogs are registered and their vaccinations and license paperwork is reviewed, the gates are open and the dogs are welcome to run, romp and swim freely. As with all Montgomery County Recreation events emphasis is on providing a safe, fun experience for all participants.”

Not surprisingly, Stiles said the dog swim is extremely popular with Labrador and Golden Retrievers.

Now that the dog swim is over, Stiles said the outdoor pools are officially closed for the winter season.

“In the spring, the pools will be reopened and thoroughly scrubbed for the Memorial Day opening,” she added.
