Police Stop Traffic on the ICC for Rocky the Terrier (Photo)
A small dog caused quite the scene on Thursday evening (July 3) during rush hour as he traveled along the Intercounty Connector, stopping traffic as police and drivers tried to rescue him from the highway.
Maryland Transit Authority Police received a call around 5:38 p.m. that initially came through as a collision near the New Hampshire Avenue exit on Route 200, but officers quickly realized upon arriving on the scene that they had something much different on their hands, according to Jonathan Green, Public Information Officer for the MDTA.
“He got around a little bit,” Green said, adding that the small dog traveled about a mile along the road during one of the busiest times of the day.
A motorist finally captured the dog almost an hour later around 6:36 p.m. and turned him over to the police who brought the dog to animal control, according to Green, who said some identifying information was found on the animal.
Traffic was briefly stopped along the ICC and then later restricted to a single lane while police tried to stop the terrier.
Green said animal control is trying to connect Rocky to his owners and return him safely home following his adventure.
