Police Search for Suspect in Silver Spring Armed Robbery

Detectives continue to investigate the Oct. 9 armed robbery of a woman in Silver Spring, according to a press release from the Montgomery County Police Department. Police request the public’s help in identifying the male suspect.

According to the press release, first responders from MCPD and the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the intersection of Chicago and Gist Avenues at approximately 10:20 p.m.

Investigators determined that approximately five minutes earlier, the female victim was approached from behind by the male suspect. The suspect punched her in the face and threatened to shoot her — though the victim later reported that she did not see a firearm in his possession. After stealing the woman’s cell phone, the suspect fled the scene on foot. He was last seen running along Sligo Avenue towards Grove Street.

The victim described the suspect as a Black male in his 20’s. He is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a gray sweatshirt, black pants, and a black-and-white Adidas backpack. His hair was styled in short twists, with turquoise tips.

Detectives urge anyone with information regarding this suspect or this crime to contact the 3rd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6870.
