Police released surveillance images Friday of a man who assaulted a Ride On bus driver in Rockville early Tuesday morning.

The bus had left the Shady Grove Metro Station when the man and the driver got into a verbal altercation, police said. During the argument, the driver tried to call police. At that time, the man took the phone and assaulted the driver, police said.

The suspect continued the assault until the victim stopped the bus in the 15900 block of Frederick Road and opened the doors, police said. The suspect left the bus and fled from the area on a bicycle that he had brought with him on the bus, police said.

Rockville District officers responded about 12:59 a.m. Tuesday, shortly after the assault had occurred, police said.
