Montgomery County police officers are now providing security at Montgomery County Council meetings, according to police spokesperson Rick Goodale.

At his weekly briefing, County Council President Roger Berliner was asked about the presence of uniformed officers at a recent County Council meeting.

“There is a feeling that there is a different anger out there, and a different energy out there today then there was when I certainly began. So these are steps that we are taking in order to ensure there are appropriate precautions in place,” Berliner said.

When asked if this was a response to a credible threat, Berliner said, “no.”

County Council members are scheduled to hold a closed door meeting about building security on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Council’s agenda.
