UPDATED: Police Investigating Report of Shot Fired on Walter Reed Bethesda Campus

(RELEASED)UPDATED, July 6, 1:14 p.m.- Montgomery County Police say a search of a 20-story building on the campus of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center has turned up no signs of a shooter.

According to Capt. Paul Starks, officers have just five stories in the building left to search but there is “no indication there was a shooter,” he said at a news conference. “We still have some work to do.”

All patient care at the Walter Reed facility has been suspended for the day, according to Montgomery County Police.

UPDATED, July 6, 12:30 p.m.- 

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is on lockdown after an alleged report of a shot fired on campus.

Montgomery County Police have not confirmed the report.

The Department of the Navy has said security is searching buildings and employees are sheltering in place. Some roads in the area have been closed including Jones Bridge Road and Cedar Lane.

According to police, a call came in to Emergency Communications at 10:48 a.m. for a report of a single shot heard on the campus. Department of Defense Security Force, National Institutes of Health Police Force, county police agencies and medics have responded to the center, according to the Navy.

Original-    Montgomery County Police are on the Walter Reed Bethesda campus investigating an alleged report of a single shot fired on campus. No additional information is immediately available about the report.
