A Potomac man is in jail tonight and charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed two people in a parking lot at Montgomery Mall.

Police received the call at 2:03 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Westfield Montgomery Mall, 7101 Democracy Boulevard.

According to a police account,  a traffic altercation occurred between the drivers of two vehicles at a stop sign on the roadway that circles the mall.  Police said one of the vehicles (later determined to be the suspect’s vehicle) almost struck another vehicle (later determined to be the victim’s vehicle).  The dispute continued into the mall parking lot near the Sears store, according to police.

That’s when, police said, both drivers exited their vehicles and the driver (suspect) of one of the vehicles stabbed the 31-year-old male driver (victim) and the 28-year-old female passenger (victim) that had been in the other vehicle.  The suspect then re-entered his vehicle and drove away, police said.

Police said the suspect was located on top of an adjacent mall parking deck and was taken into custody a short time later.  When the suspect was located, detectives also discovered that the suspect’s 2-year-old daughter was in the vehicle.

The female stabbing victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the male victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police have identified the suspect as David B. Goldberg, age 24, of the 11600 block of Milbern Drive in Potomac. Police said Goldberg has been charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, two counts of first degree assault and two counts of second degree assault.  He is currently being held without bond.
