Police Investigate Shooting in Bel Pre
Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Pear Tree Court Sunday night.
According to police at about 9:12 p.m., police responded to an apartment in the 3500 block of Pear Tree Court in the Bel Pre area for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived at the apartment they found a 26-year-old man who had been shot in the shoulder.
Preliminary investigation by detectives has revealed that two suspects, one armed with a handgun, forced entry through a door into the apartment, while a third suspect acted as a lookout. Five people were at home, including two small children. The armed suspects demanded money from the occupants, according to police. During the robbery a struggle ensued between Barrington Dean Watts, 30 of the 3000 block of Spaulding Avenue in Baltimore and the victims resulting in the 26-year-old man being shot. The victims were able to restrain the Watts until the police arrived, according to police. The other two suspects ran in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a news release
Watts was transported to a local area hospital for injuries he received during the struggle with the the victims. Watts is being charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, 1st-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
At this time, detectives believe there may be some association between the suspects and residents.
