Police Investigate Possible Drowning in Backyard Pool in Potomac
Montgomery County police officers are investigating the apparent drowning of a 22-year-old woman from Gaithersburg.
Police said fire rescue crews were called to a residential pool in Potomac for the report of a possible drowning on Corral Drive shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to a police account, fire rescue crews pulled the woman from the pool and began life-saving measures. Fire rescue crews transported the woman to a local hospital where police said she died this morning.
Police have identified the woman as Jesusa Sarmiento Onton.
According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that Onton was visiting another woman who was cleaning the home on Corral Drive when she decided to go swimming by herself. Police said the victim was discovered unresponsive in the pool by the house cleaner who called 9.1.1.
No foul play is suspected, police said. The cause of death remains undetermined pending the results of an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore.
