Police Investigate Homicide in Silver Spring (Photo)

Montgomery County Police report that Fidel Washington, age 25, of the 9700 block of Mt. Pisgah Lane in Silver Spring was charged with first-degree murder for the June 28 homicide of his mother, Esperanza Valle, age 50.

During questioning on June 28, Washington confessed to the homicide and stated that he and his mother had an argument about him not having a job. He was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with first-degree murder.

Montgomery County police are investigating the death of an adult female in Silver Spring as a homicide. An adult male suspect is in custody at this time, police said.

At approximately 8:09 a.m. this morning, officers responded to an apartment in the 9700 block of Mt. Pisgah Road in Silver Spring for a check the welfare call. A concerned co-worker called police after the victim had not shown up to work recently. Officers knocked on the door but did not receive a response. With the assistance of property management, officers entered the apartment. In the apartment, officers located the victim deceased with trauma to her body. According to police, officers also located the male suspect in the apartment and he was taken into custody.

Investigators believe that the suspect and victim were known to each other. As it is early in the investigation, the nature of the relationship between the suspect and victim cannot be confirmed, police said. It cannot be confirmed if either the suspect or victim lived at the residence.
