Police Investigate Hit & Run Fatality

Montgomery County detectives from the Major Crimes Division are investigating the death of a 34-year-old man as a homicide this morning.

At 1:17 a.m. on Dec. 5, police from Gaithersburg and the 6th District, along with Fire/Rescue personnel, responded for the report of a pedestrian struck on W. Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg.

Responding officers located the deceased victim near 211 W. Diamond Avenue and contacted the surviving victim a short distance away.  The 54-year-old surviving victim reported to officers that he and his brother, the deceased victim, were given a ride by subjects in a black Honda Civic earlier in the morning.

Police said the victims had been dropped near the Gaitherstown Plaza at Route 355 and Chestnut Street. As the two victims were walking west on W. Diamond Avenue, they were struck by a black Honda Civic.  The surviving victim reported that he believes it was the same vehicle that he had been riding in a few minutes earlier.

Shortly after arriving to the scene, officers located a black Honda Civic in the Gaitherstown Shopping Center.  The Honda was unoccupied and has damage that is consistent with a pedestrian collision.  Investigators are attempting to locate the owner to determine who was driving the vehicle this morning. The surviving victim is being treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5070.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
