UPDATED Montgomery County police officers are investigating a fatal collision that occurred Friday morning in the Colesville area.

Police officers are also investigating a second, single-vehicle collision that occurred in the same area, at approximately the same time.

According to a police account, shortly before 7 a.m. on June 17, the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received 9-1-1 calls reporting two separate, serious single-vehicle collisions in the same area.

Officers from both the 3rd and 4th Districts along with Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 200 block of Randolph Road and to the area of Randolph Road and New Hampshire Avenue for the collisions.

At the Randolph Road scene, police said the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2009 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound in the 200 block of Randolph Road just prior to Locksley Lane when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Police said the vehicle came to rest in a residential yard. According to police, the adult driver died at the scene.

At the New Hampshire Avenue scene, police said a separate investigation revealed that a black 2005 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling eastbound on Randolph Road and attempted to turn south onto New Hampshire Avenue, when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Police said the 20-year-old driver was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

Both these collisions remain under investigation.

Anyone with information about either of these collisions is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620.
