Police Investigate Fatal Collision Involving Bicyclist and SUV
Montgomery County police officers are investigating a fatal collision involving a bicyclist and an SUV that occurred on Monday night at the intersection of Viers Mill Road and Turkey Branch Parkway.
According to police, 19-year-old Frank Lawrence Towers of Rockville was killed in the collision that occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 28th.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that Towers was on his bicycle and crossing westbound Viers Mill Road from the median strip in the area of a crosswalk. Police said a silver, 2000 Toyota 4Runner was traveling westbound on Viers Mill Road near Turkey Branch Parkway when, for reasons still under investigation, the SUV and bike collided. According to police, Towers was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner was not injured, police said.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620. Callers may remain anonymous. The investigation continues.
