Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Wheaton

UPDATED Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 along Georgia Avenue just north of Hathway Drive in Wheaton.

Police said the 72-year-old driver of a 2014 Cadillac CTS died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the 2004 GMC C4500 truck, police said, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that the Cadillac rear-ended the GMC truck in the area of northbound Georgia Avenue at Hathaway Drive. Police said the force of the collision caused the Cadillac to travel and come to a rest into the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue.

Police have identified the driver of the GMC truck as Emelvin Eliud Soto Alvarez, age 33, of Hyattsville.  Police have identified the driver of the Cadillac as Charles Gibson of Montvale Drive in Silver Spring.
