Police Investigate Deaths of Mother and Daughter in Chevy Chase
Montgomery County police are investigating the deaths of a 29-year-old mother and her four-year-old daughter at a Chevy Chase home.
According to a police account, police and firefighters responded to a report of an electrocution at the residence shortly before 4:30 p.m. in the 8800 block of Connecticut Avenue on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that a mother and her daughter were found unresponsive outside of the home in the stairwell leading to the basement. Police said they were transported to separate trauma centers where they died from their injuries.
Fire and Rescue Service Spokesperson Pete Piringer said a firefighter was injured at this scene as well.
Police investigators found a portable sump pump in the standing water near the victims.
Detectives said they are looking at the possibility that the water was charged and an electrical surge contributed to the victims’ deaths.
Many areas of Montgomery County experienced flooding due to the heavy rainfall on Saturday afternoon.
This incident remains under investigation, however, police said no foul-play is suspected at this time.
