Police Investigate Bank Robbery in Briggs Chaney Area

photo of Montgomery County Police CarMontgomery County Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on December 31 in the Briggs Chaney area.

According to a police account, on December 31 at approximately 10:14 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the TD Bank located at 3132 Briggs Chaney Road for a report of a bank robbery.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the suspect entered the bank, approached the teller, and passed a note demanding money. Police said the note implied that the suspect had a weapon, but a weapon was not seen. According to police, the suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank to a nearby shopping center.

Shortly after the robbery, police said some of the money carried by the suspect was dropped and then picked up by passersby before police arrived on the scene. Police said the suspect was then observed by witnesses entering the Family Dollar Store at 13817 Outlet Drive. According to police, the suspect appeared to change clothes and fled from the rear of the store.

Police said the passersby who do not return the money could be prosecuted for theft. Anyone who wants to return the recovered money should contact the Montgomery County Police Department at 301.279.8000.

According to police, the suspect is described as a black male, between the ages of 20 and 30 years old, with facial hair. At the time of the robbery, police said the suspect was wearing a black sweater, black jeans and black Nike boots.
