Police Investigate Armed Carjacking at Church (PHOTO)

police carMontgomery County police officers are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred Thursday night at the Episcopal Church of our Savior in Hillandale.

Police said on April 14 at approximately 9:10 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to 1700 Powder Mill Road for the report of an armed carjacking.

According to police, the investigation indicates that the 76-year-old victim had exited the church to the parking lot following choir practice when she noted an unknown male walking in the parking lot. Police said the victim entered her vehicle and started her car. According to police, the unknown suspect approached the vehicle and opened the driver’s side door. Police said the suspect demanded money and shoved an object into her stomach, implying he had a weapon. The victim told the suspect that she did not have any money, according to a police account.

Police said the suspect then grabbed the victim’s arm, pulled her from the vehicle, and threw her to the ground. The suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle.

Captain Paul Starks described the vehicle as a 2008 metallic gray Toyota Highlander.

The victim suffered minor injuries, police said, and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

“This is a serious crime,” said Starks.

The suspect is described by police as a black male in his 30’s, approximately 5’6” to 5’08’ tall, and weighing between 150 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a dark shirt and khaki pants, according to the police description.

“There’s a cash reward for anyone with information. We want to get him off the streets,” Starks said.
