Police Charge Man in Connection With Theft from Autistic Friend
Remember the guy who stole from his autistic friend?
Montgomery County police said Wednesday that Financial Crimes detectives have charged Kim Dashawn Prophet, 24, of an unconfirmed address, with fraud charges relating to the case.
In early October, police released surveillance photos and video of the friend at a bank. Detectives received about a dozen tips identifying Prophet, police said.
The culprit had befriended the victim, 22, and gained his trust, police said. He had asked the victim for his bank account information, and he asked to see his ATM card, which he stole it, police said.
On Aug. 11, a man entered the Navy Federal Credit Union at 12244 Rockville Pike and posing as the victim, deposited a fake check into the victim’s account with a forged signature of the victim, police said. The man then went to the branch’s ATM and using the victim’s ATM card, withdrew $600 from the account, police said.
Police charged Prophet with fraud and forgery crimes, and obtaining property of a vulnerable adult by deception via a Montgomery County criminal warrant, police said. Prophet is now in custody at the Arlington County, Virginia, Detention Facility on unrelated charges.
