Montgomery County police released a computer-created sketch of a man Friday believed to have assaulted a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in the Damascus area on March 15. Police are asking the public’s help in identify him.

About 12:10 p.m., a female letter carrier was delivering mail in the 9400 block of Holsey Road when the man approached her while she was in her mail truck, police said.  The man asked the victim if she had a package for an address on Holsey Road.  After she told the man she didn’t a package for that address, the man again told the victim to give him the package and reached into the mail truck, police said.

The letter carrier tried to roll up the truck’s windows and the man assaulted her, police said. He then used an unknown object to cut the sleeve of the jacket that she was wearing, police said. The victim, who was not injured, drove the mail truck away from the suspect and called the police.

The suspect is described as in his late teens or early 20s. He has dark hair, wears glasses, and has a medium build.  He was last seen wearing a knit cap.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about this assault is asked to call the 5th District Investigative Section at 240-773-6237.
